Completed project

J44, Jesolo: a sky of blown spheres, with plants inside

Blown glass spheres, coloured through and mirrored, hung at different heights with greenery falling between them. The light is ours: a cluster that does not read as a chandelier but as a ceiling.

What we supplied
clusters of blown glass spheres, coloured and mirrored
The cluster of coloured and mirrored glass spheres seen from below, with plants trailing between them

A cluster is not a chandelier: it is a ceiling

The spheres are blown one at a time and hung at different heights, not on one plane. From below you cannot count them and you cannot find a centre: what you see is a surface, not an object.

The greenery falls between one sphere and the next, and it is not decoration added later: the plants hang from the same structure, and their shadow is part of what the cluster draws on the floor.

A room lined with slats, and the light that multiplies it

In one of the rooms the wall is grooved into slats, and every globe repeats dozens of times inside the grooves. The number of sources you see is not the number there is: it is the number the wall gives back.

It is an effect that is designed beforehand or never arrives: the distance of the globes from the wall decides how many times they multiply, and once installed it does not move.

Mirrored, where the light comes from outside

Some of the spheres are mirrored — chrome, gold, turquoise — rather than clear. It is not a matter of taste: a mirrored sphere does not make light, it gathers it, and under a glazed ceiling it brings the sky down along with the greenery.

Seen from above the two families alternate: the clear ones hold the artificial light, the mirrored ones hold the daylight.

Four looks, two of which are not photographs

And the page says so, because a rendering and a photograph are not the same thing.

The spheres hung under the light ceiling, with the glazing beyond

Against the light, and still visible

Under a light ceiling with glazing behind, a clear sphere risks disappearing. The glass is coloured through: that is what keeps them visible in full daylight.

The slats do the rest

The wall is grooved, and every globe repeats in the slats. The number of sources you see is not the number there is: it is the number the wall multiplies.

Ambient rendering: the sphere cluster above the sofas of the white lounge

A rendering, not a photograph

⚠️ This is not a photograph: it is an ambient rendering, brought to a photographic finish, that shows how the cluster reads above a seat.

Ambient rendering: the spheres along the corridor with its timber ceiling

The same cluster, in a corridor

⚠️ This too is a rendering. In a corridor the cluster stretches out instead of gathering: the same family, another plan.

A cluster is drawn onto the room, not chosen

Send us the plan and the clear height: we come back with the layout of the spheres, the dimensions and the load to carry.
