Mövenpick Hotel Basel: pleated light from reception to the rooms
The Mövenpick Hotel Basel is a four-star hotel with 260 rooms and suites in the west tower of Baloise Park, next to Basel station, opened on 1 September 2021. Most of the decorative fittings are ours: table lamps, floor lamps, wall lamps and pleated pendants, and the rings of the ballroom.

At reception, table lamps with soft volumes
The interiors are by Matteo Thun & Partners, under the motto “Timeless Modern”: warm colours and natural materials. On the reception desks we placed table lamps with a white base of rounded volumes and a wide, pleated, ivory shade.
The pleated shade returns in the seating area next door, on the floor lamps, and then in every room: one skin for different spaces. The staircase chandelier, at the centre of the photograph, is by another manufacturer.
In the room, wall lamp and floor lamp share one pleat
On either side of the bed, on the orange upholstered headboard, two wall lamps: a small pleated truncated-cone shade on a dark arm, and below it an adjustable reading spot.
In the corner, the floor lamp with a tall cylindrical shade, pleated as well. Two sizes, the same pleat: the room reads as one whole, from the headboard to the window.
In the lounge, a row of lit floor lamps
In the lounge that opens onto the terrace, beside the dark pillars, runs a row of floor lamps: a tall cylindrical shade, pleated, on a dark stem with a round base.
When lit, they give an amber light that warms the wooden floor and the red of the rugs. It is the shape from the room, scaled up: the size changes, not the sign.
From the rooms to the ballroom
The same families in the rooms and suites, and two new shapes for the function rooms: the photographs are by R. Klostermeier for Accor SA.
Twin room with a city view
A wall lamp on the headboard, a floor lamp by the window, a slim brass-coloured lamp on the desk.
The presidential suite
Above the long wooden table, a row of drum pendants with a wide, low, pleated shade.
A meeting room
A single elongated oval pendant, with a pleated band and a diffuser held by small brass-coloured clips.
The ballroom
Glowing brass-coloured rings of different diameters, hung at varying heights and angles beneath a five-metre ceiling.
